I finally found my last weapon for the road. I’ve had lots of different portable scanners including Neat and Cardscan but they tended to be too slow, low quality scanning, or were unable to scan different sizes.

I owned a couple of the desktop Fujitsu Scansnap scanners, having one at home and one at work and am a big fan. They worked so well that I usually left all of my scanning to be done when I got home from my business trip. If I was gone for more than a few days, it was something I often dreaded coming home to.

When I saw the Fujitsu portable scanner on sale I grabbed one. The portable S1100 is the latest member of the Scansnap line and does perform like the others but did have to give up a little to be ultraportable. It does charge with a USB cable but only does 1 sided scans and doesn’t have a multi page feed. But it is still fast with high quality scans and easy to use software.

A couple things I wanted to mention that aren’t dealbreakers is that it would be nice to have a traveling case to help protect when the suitcase or bags get tossed around. Also, the business card software for the business card scanner is horrible. Fujitsu needs to find a business card software company to replace its existing one to go with its otherwise perfect Scansnap lineup.

My Fujitsu Scansnap S1100 scanner has already scanned more than 5 full banker boxes of documents and it just keeps moving along. The Fujitsu S1300 can handle paper up to 8.5 by 14 inches with a high optical resolution at 600 dpi by 600 dpi.

It can either be plugged into 2 USB ports on your Mac or PC or an AC outlet for power.

Documents scan be scanned and turned into PDF’s with a simple keyword search capability.

The ScanSnap S1300 can be used at home to take care of personal things like receipts, recipes, or statements from your bank.

It also can be used in the office but seems to work best for business trips when scanning is a real necessity and for meetings when you want to share notes.

It folds up nicely into a tiny little box and has a very small footprint.

Since the S1300 is a duplex multiple page scanner, it handles bulk scanning jobs easily and effectively.  The software is easy to use and makes it simple to get the job done.

There are 2 models of the ScanSnap S1300 available.  There is the regular S1300 and the S1300 with the Deluxe Bundle.

The S1300 with the Deluxe Bundle comes with additional software to help make your scanning experience easier.

One piece of software that is included with the Deluxe Bundle is RackFiler.

It is archival software that works great on a PC but will not work on a Mac.  So keep that in mind.
